Clients may call or write their assigned attorney using the contact information below. Our office is not able to provide information about a case or discuss a case with anyone, including family and friends, unless we have received permission directly from a client to speak with a particular person. Clients in prison or jail should be aware that phone calls are monitored and recorded, and the assigned attorney may decline to speak with a client in custody in order to avoid violating the attorney-client privilege. Clients in custody are therefore advised to communicate with their attorneys by mail.
Clerks and Judges who have questions about conducting an indigence hearing, appointing the Office of the Appellate Defender, ordering transcripts, completing the Appellate Entries, or any other aspects of the appellate process may refer to the information posted on our website for Judges and Clerks, or may contact the Office of the Appellate Defender at (919) 354-7210.
Clerks should mail, fax, or email the completed Appellate Entries and all judgments to the Office of the Appellate Defender. Our fax number is (919) 354-7211. Documents may be scanned and emailed to our office inbox: ids.appellatedefender@nccourts.org. Regardless of whether you mail, fax, or email documents, please call to confirm that we received the case.
Trial and appellate practitioners in need of assistance may refer to the information posted on our website for Trial Practitioners and Appellate Practitioners, or by visiting the websites of our Public Defense Partners. Attorneys may also call the Office of the Appellate Defender and ask to speak with one of the on-call attorneys.
